Finding the right support workers or providers is crucial. Don’t feel obligated to stick with a support worker if you’re not satisfied or if there’s no connection.

Connection is the key... You can train someone how to do things you like but finding that connection with someone is the crucial key to the right support worker.

Clients often ask me, “What does a support worker do? What can they do for me?” It can be challenging to envision having someone in your space providing ongoing support, especially if you’ve never had that before.

I always recommend that my clients create a list—yes, a list! It may sound unusual, but you’ll often find you’re asking the same questions as your support worker.

A list is a great way to maximize your support. It doesn’t have to be fancy or permanent; it could simply be a notepad on the counter or a piece of paper on the fridge outlining tasks. For example: help wash the dog, do a load of laundry, change bed sheets, vacuum under the bed, organize the wardrobe, empty and clean the pantry of expired items, assist in the garden, or take a trip to Bunnings for new plants and veggies, and help build a planter box.

There are many platforms available now to help you find the right fit, and I’ve listed a few here.

  • Mable

  • Private Supports

  • Facebook groups

  • Hireup

  • Providers

  • Word of Mouth

  • and many more............

And remember, your support coordinator should be checking in with you in regards to your supports, how you are going with them and if they are the right fit.  If they aren’t asking you these questions then you need to think about finding someone who will ask you.  At Care Connect Coordination we are here to help you find the perfect support workers that fit into your lifestyle and family.
